Our breeder

Service dogs must have excellent temperaments as they are exposed to numerous situations: riding on the train, grocery shopping in busy crowds, going to movies which may be loud, and many other places a pet dog just can't handle. As well as this they should be eager to please, happy to accept treats and love as rewards and be very intelligent. It's very important that you find an excellent breeder that will help set you up with the perfect dog.

When I decided on a portuguese water dog as my service animal I found a great mentor (thanks Rolli) that walked me through the process of what to look for. We decided Pam Collar of Sunshine Kennels would be the perfect candidate for getting a puppy from. And guess what... she was! If anyone is interested in using this breed (which I can't say enough positive things about) as a service dog, or even just for a pet, Pam is the way to go.

The whole time she was there for me to contact with any questions and kept me up to date on how the litter was growing. I was able to visit her home and take a peek at the 11 puppies she had running around her house and was happy to see her dogs were house dogs -- not just breeding stock. She was very kind and worked with both me and Rolli to determine what the perfect puppy would be for my needs (as she did for all of her puppy recipients). Temperament tests were done before selecting the pups' homes and after all the testing she chose the perfect little puppy for me!

I couldn't be happier with her selection. Upon pick up she gave us a cute little goody bag with a bag of treats, a tug toy, and a few other things. We still maintain contact today and I can tell this is a person that really cares about her dogs which is a breath of fresh air.

So this is a special thanks for really improving my quality of life with my little guy, Chaplin, and bravo for the perfect match. I know his litter mates bring great joy to their owners as well.

I highly recommend you look to her with any questions about PWDs or are interested in getting one to see if any litters are on the way.
